New Year journey

Starting from 30 of December we planning to go to the New Year journey. We planning to visit following places:

In Latvia Rundale, Riga, Sigulda and Gauja
Next day we are going to Estonia. There will visit Tallin, Keila Joa and see Estonian waterfalls.

All the way will be moving by car (BMW 316i), it’s length aproximitely 1500 km. that about 500 km per day (~ 4 hours per day).

Hope that journey will be interesting and will see all that interesting places what were reading about in last half of year.

Alternatives for Oracle Portal

Hi,

I’m still thinking about alternative and (hope) open source solution that would support portlets and would be less annoying in deployments and management than Oracle Portal.

Several requirements for the alternative:

Open source
As simple as possible
AJAX or Google Toolkit support
Build in Struts support
Widespread
Portlet support (JSR-168)

According following requirements I found following portals:

I don’t really know what solution will be best but some how feel that LifeRay will be best. But as you know JBoss was bought by Hed Hat and now gives enterprise support to customers.

Javaranch is moving to jForum

Hi all,

Starting from 22 of December Javaranch forum is moving to the pure java based forum engine jforum. As I know initial start of new forum is 3 of January. There will be huge data movement from old forum (millions of posts and private messages).

Ranchers were working since last start of this year. Tuning modifications and other serious things were done while adopting jforum to the needs of ranchers.

Hope that new release of forum will be successful.
